Schuyler Heim Bridge

Cosmec manufactured 63 PTFE Spherical Bearings for the Rehabilitation of the Schuyler Heim Bridge, which connects from the port of Los Angeles to Long Beach. This bridge was named after Commodore Schuyler F. Heim, the commanding officer of the Terminal Island Naval Base during World War II and is one of three bridges to connect Terminal Island to the mainland.

Veterans’ Memorial Bridge

Cosmec Inc. provided over 100 Pot Bearings during the erection of the Veterans’ Memorial Bridge. The Veteran’s Memorial Bridge is a bascule bridge. It has replaced the Brightman Street Bridge and crosses the Taunton River to connect Fall River and Somerset. This bridge also includes a walkway/bikeway and fishing pier.

Cosmec supplied JV Haydon Bridge with 206 - Cosmec XL Rotex Expansion Bearings. Additionally, Cosmec supplied 26 Fixed Steel Rocker Bearings and 4 Laminated Elastomeric Bearings. No maintenance or supplementary lubrication is required. Cosmec XL Bearings are designed and built to outlast the structure that they support.

For the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway Interchange, Cosmec Engineers designed over 240 Pot and Disc Bearings for a total of 12 bridges. Cosmec provided over 750 pages of calculations, sealed by a P.E., and over 170 sheets of original bearings, designed specifically for the requirements of these bridges.

For Bridge 3-2 of the West High Level Approach and the Bridge 3 Cable-Stayed Unit, Cosmec, designed and manufactured a combined total of 63 Guided Expansion, Non-Guided Expansion and Fixed Pot Bearings along with Vertical and Transverse Elastomeric Bearing Assemblies. In addition to the design and manufacture of the bearings, Cosmec designed and produced custom lifting and installation devices as requested by the customer.

The Cooper River Bridge is the 3rd longest cable-stayed bridge in North America. Cosmec supplied many Pot and Elastomeric Bearings for this bridge that assist in maintaining the structural integrity during powerful hurricanes, devastating earthquakes, and even ship collisions. Additionally, we designed uniquely configured sole plates to accommodate specific seismic requirements.

The four-lane South Omaha Bridge was built in replacement of the aging two-lane South Omaha Veterans Memorial Bridge. The bridge crosses over the Missouri River from Douglas County, Nebraska to Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Cosmec manufactured 4 large scale Pin-Style Rocker Bearings for this project in 2008.
